Steep.

On December 21st Steep, the Sony Picture Classics documentary on Big Mountain Skiing will be premiering in Salt Lake City (and about 20 other cities around the US).

This is not a typical ski film with loud music and all action, it’s a film chronicling the growth of the sport.

You can find info and the trailer on the movie’s website here.

Rather than post the trailer, I thought I’d post a clip from the movie featuring one of my favorite skiers and the legend of the steeps, the late Doug Coombs…

See you there,
Jake

Waiting for Winter…

Yesterday’s storm ends with a sad note. Alta has officially announced that they will be pushing back their opening day from this thursday pending snow conditions. Their website has yet to be updated, but that is to come soon I imagine. Snowbird hasn’t announced anything officially, but also told me they are waiting on snow and are unlikely to make this saturday’s scheduled opening.

Shot from Derek (aka Trackhead), check out his website here.

From Alta’s Website:
“Our optimism for a November 15th opening hasn’t been supported by Mother Nature. Our first storm in 2 weeks gave us 5 inches of snow and cooler temperatures so we can now make snow at night. Pray for another storm or two. We’ll open as soon as conditions allow…”

Snow on the Forecast.

Snow on the Wasatch Forecast. I’ve heard reports that the white fluffies will be falling through sunday, leading to speculation of an early November Brighton opening. This would be a good weekend to get your gear ready or go for one last bike ride.

Excited,
Jake

Pizza with Sage.

Ya, this isn’t exactly ski stoke, but this was just too cool not to post.

Met Sage Cattabriga-Alosa today down at Backcountry while they were having a pizza party. Ended up talking to him about conditions on high rustler and the awesome skiing at Alta the past couple days.

Sage on Alf’s.

Me on Alf’s.

Psh…no contest really…

Cool stuff,
Jake
